Independent Electric Machinery Co. The Vertical Motor Solution with AEGIS®  wins Honorable Mention from the Pumps & Systems 2012 Product Innovation of the Year Award

The Vertical Motor Solution was introduced in January 2012. The system protects vertical hollow-shaft pump motors from electrical bearing damage (pitting) caused by stray shaft currents induced by variable frequency drives (inverters). None of the treated motors have had repeat bearing failure. The shop installs an AEGIS® Bearing Protection Ring on the motor shaft, next to the motor's guide (lower) bearing and, using proprietary techniques, applies ceramic insulation to the carrier that holds the thrust (upper) bearing in place at the motor's drive end.  The process can be performed on new motors or damaged motors that need reconditioning. In most cases, the current technology is an inverter-duty or inverter-ready AC vertical pump motor.
